A new hidden treasure has been found in Blaine, an old mining shaft once owned by the Blaine Mining Co. that closed down in the late 1800’s. With the United States government adding the 18th Amendment to the Constitution in 1919, ‘underground’ organizations used these mine shafts as ‘smuggling tunnels’ to run goods, but mostly liquor in to the U.S..

This lasted well past the 21st Amendment, and even to this day, some of these old mining tunnels are still being found near the border. There is a rumor that a local family business has found one of these tunnels under the Gateway1890 Taphouse and has re-opened it as a Speak Easy Spirits Room. If you are looking for a relaxed, cozy atmosphere with 21+ patronage, we suggest you find your way to the Smuggler’s Tunnel.

Access to the tunnel is through the back parking lot  tapyard gate.
